One of the most heavily traveled sections of the highway in the metro area is the stretch of I-270 between I-44 and I-64. Traffic back-ups plague the interstate in this area and cause rush hour congestion, which increases the possibility of car accidents. The current solution to this constant congestion involves increases to the merge lanes near Watson and the I-44 ramps, adding one more lane onto northbound I-27 between I-44 and Manchester.
Currently, MoDot has narrowed the existing lanes, so drivers will lack shoulders in some locations. Similarly, there will be some late night closures, which have not yet been disclosed. The construction of northbound widening work is already underway, while the southbound work is scheduled to begin in 2013. Remember to drive with caution when approaching construction zones.
