One man died and several were injured in a freak St. Louis accident last week. The incident happened on Saturday night, when a group of at least two hundred gathered outside of Kilroy’s Bar to celebrate the Cardinal’s win over the Milwaukee Brewers. When a sudden storm hit the area, the large white tent over the crowd became detached from the ground and crashed through the crowd.
Although the cause of the 58-year-old man’s death was ruled a heart attack, it’s unclear whether or not the heart attack was related to the flying debris. Approximately 100 people were treated at the scene of the accident, and 17 were taken to area hospitals. At least five are still hospitalized, and were last reported as being in serious condition.
According to KCTV News 5, St. Louis building commissioner Frank Oswald reported that the tent had passed inspection less than a month prior to the St. Louis accident. Oswald stated that in order to pass the inspection, tents must be able to withstand winds of at least 90 mph. However, witnesses to the accident have reported winds estimated around 60 mph and tennis ball sized hail. Officials continue their investigation into this tragic St. Louis accident.
