A two vehicle car accident in Franklin County, near Union, left one man dead and five others injured early Sunday morning.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident took place at around 1:45 a.m. on Highway 50, just ahead of Gerald, Missouri. Highway Patrol reports reveal that an eastbound car, driven by 25-year-old Brandon Janssen, crossed the center of the roadway and struck an oncoming westbound car head on. Janssen, of Cape Girardeau, was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say Janssen was not wearing a seat belt. A passenger in Janssen’s car, 26-year-old Ignacio Serna of Fulton, Missouri, sustained serious injuries and was ambulated to a nearby hospital.
The driver of the vehicle that was hit by Janssen’s car, was 23-year-0ld Darren Gamblin of Eldon, Missouri. Gamblin suffered numerous fractures and broken bones. He was flown to Mercy Hospital St. Louis by an air ambulance where he was also diagnosed with a concussion. Mrs. Casey Gamblin also suffered broken bones from the head-on collision, and was similarly airlifted to Mercy Hospital. The couple’s infant daughter was secured in a car seat in the back of the vehicle where she suffered minor injuries. The fourth individual in the car, David Schermerhorn of Eldon, Missouri, was transported to Mercy Hospital Washington to be treated for moderate injuries.
According to officials, Darren Gamblin was driving his family back to his home after working in an independent wrestling show in St. Louis on Saturday night. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of all those involved in this tragic crash.
